Car-free

Travelling sustainably

Wengen has always been car-free. Visitors arrive by train, taking the Wengernalp Railway directly into the village. This means that the mindful travel experience begins the moment you arrive. Once in the village, there is plenty to explore on foot. Trains and mountain railways are available for excursions into the surrounding mountains.

Cooperation with UNESCO

In the spirit of World Heritage

In 2001, 23 local communities, including Grindelwald, committed themselves to sustainable regional development through the Konkordiaplatz Charter. Since 2021, there has been close cooperation with the Swiss Alps Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Grindelwald, three themed trails and an adventure trail bring the World Natural Heritage Site to life in a fun and engaging way.

A label that makes a commitment

Jungfrau Region Tourismus AG is actively committed to the sustainable development of the destination. We have been ISO 14001-certified since 2024 and are therefore committed to continuously reducing our environmental impact. At the same time, we meet the requirements of Swisstainable Level III – Leading and are part of Switzerland Tourism’s sustainability programme.
We are preparing to introduce the SPS – Sustainable Corporate Management standard in 2026, which is set to replace our ISO 14001 certification and further develop our sustainability work in a holistic manner.
