Getting to Wengen
How do I get there?
Wengen is easily accessible by public transport. As Wengen is a car-free zone, you will need to park your car in Lauterbrunnen. Select your preferred mode of transport below to see at a glance all the key information on travelling by train, car or plane.
From Interlaken Ost station, you can reach Wengen in 37 minutes. Take the blue and yellow Bernese Oberland Railways (BOB) train to Lauterbrunnen. Important: Make sure you sit at the front of the train, as it splits at Zweilütschinen. Anyone sitting at the back will end up in Grindelwald. In Lauterbrunnen, change to the yellow and green train operated by the Wengernalp Railway (WAB).
Wengen is car-free. If you’re travelling by car, you’ll need to leave it in Lauterbrunnen and take the train. The journey from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen takes 20 to 30 minutes (depending on the season). In winter, you should expect snow-covered roads and black ice.
Please note that parking facilities in Lauterbrunnen and Stechelberg are limited, particularly at busy times. We therefore recommend that you use the Park-&-Ride scheme. This will allow you to park your car outside the town centre.
Zurich Airport
Direct trains run every two hours from Zurich Airport to Interlaken Ost. There are numerous other connections available (with a change in Bern). Journey time: approx. 2 hours
Basel Airport
You can reach Basel railway station by bus in about 15 minutes. From here, there are five direct trains a day to Interlaken Ost. There are numerous other train connections (with a change in Bern or Spiez) to choose from. Journey time: approx. 2 hours 15 minutes.
Geneva Airport
There are numerous train connections (with a change in Bern) to choose from. Journey time: approx. three hours.
From Interlaken Ost
The Bernese Oberland Railways depart from Platform 2A at Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen. There, you change to the Wengernalp Railway, which takes you directly to Wengen. The journey from Interlaken Ost to Wengen takes around 40 minutes, depending on the connection.
